Since the summer I've talked to about 30 Amazon brands about launching on TikTok Shop. Most of them do $1M to $2M a year on Amazon, and TikTok Shop is a smart next move for them. But I've turned a lot of them away. Their products are fine. Their expectations aren't.
It usually comes down to two things. They've seen an ad or heard a story about a brand that went from $0 to $1.2M in 30 days. Or they've been told that if you send out enough samples, success is guaranteed. Neither is true.
So this article is about realistic expectations, a real timeframe, and the few things that actually drive TikTok Shop growth.
How TikTok Shop Is Structured
If you know Seller Central, you already get the basics. Amazon has the Advertising Console, Vine and promotions, and TikTok Shop has its own version of each. The Shop is where your catalog lives. The Affiliate platform is where you find creators and send and manage samples. Advertising is built right into the Shop and connects to your TikTok business account.
The second piece is your TikTok profile, either a personal or a brand account, linked to your Shop. This is where a lot of Amazon sellers get stuck.
The Profile Problem
Many Amazon sellers aren't comfortable on camera, or they've never made content before. So they go the creator route, and that's fine. The catch is that when a shopper taps through from a creator's video, they can also look at the profile connected to your Shop. If that profile is empty or neglected, some of them leave. In our experience it's a small number, roughly 2 to 5 out of every 100, but you're losing those sales for no good reason.
The Real Numbers: Your First 30 Days
Say you send 100 samples a month. Expect about 75% of creators to post within two to three weeks. That's 75 videos. Some will drive sales and most won't.
That's where ads come in. Put spend behind the videos to test them. Cut what doesn't perform. Double down on anything with real engagement, figure out why it worked and ask creators to make more videos like it. Now you have a starting point.
Sales in month one? Usually $100 to $300. After that we typically see 10% to 30% month-over-month growth. Brands that already have a TikTok following can hit 30% to 300%, but that's the exception, not the plan.
The Milestones That Matter
Milestone one is $1,000 in GMV. Your ads will lose money here. You won't make a profit on these orders because you're building a new system and building ranking from zero.
This is the part Amazon sellers underestimate. On a TikTok product page, shoppers see units sold and reviews. If you have neither, every sale costs a lot. Add a management fee (around $1,500/month) plus ads. TikTok Shop ads require a $300/day budget, but even with good videos you usually won't spend the full amount each day. Either way, that first $1,000 isn't cheap.
From there, grow about 20% a month to $5,000/month, then $10,000/month. Around $10K you're probably breaking even, depending on how many samples you send. Past $15,000/month is where you start making money.
Can you get there faster? Yes, but it costs more. Spending $5,000 a month to reach $10,000 means half your revenue goes back into the channel. What you get for it is velocity: units sold, reviews and ranking that make every month after more efficient.
Don't Skip Fulfilled by TikTok
Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) gets you extra visibility. Nobody outside TikTok knows exactly how much, but here's what we see: clients who aren't advertising and aren't sending samples still usually get one or two orders within a few days of their inventory landing in the FBT warehouse. That's enough for me to say FBT gets you seen.
How Long Does It Really Take?
When a brand tells me they want to go from zero to $50,000 a month in a couple of months, I ask one question: how long did it take you to get your Amazon business to $1M or $2M? The answer is always 3, 5 or 7 years.
TikTok Shop works the same way now. The platform has grown up. It did $15.1B in U.S. GMV in 2025 across more than 800,000 U.S. stores, and more than half of those stores had zero sales (Momentum Works/Tabcut). The top 1% of sellers drive about 60% of GMV (Marketplace Pulse). The competition isn't slowing down.
A realistic first year, if you're lucky, lands between $70,000 and $150,000 in total sales, ending at around $10K to $30K/month and still growing 20% to 30%. Year two, double it. Year three, double it again. Going viral can speed things up, but you can't predict it, so don't put it in your forecast.
The Bottom Line
If you want a quick win in five months, TikTok Shop isn't it. It's too much work and too expensive for that. If you want long-term growth, you need steady sample volume, a real ad budget, FBT, and a marketing push that builds units sold and reviews. The faster you hit $10K a month, the faster you break even.
Think about the energy it took to build on Seller Central. TikTok Shop takes the same today, and AI has only made it more competitive.
